About Us

glass shelves full of yarnCrazy for Ewe in Leonardtown opened at the end of August 2004. Our goal was to provide Southern Maryland with the highest quality yarns available anywhere. To that end, we stock the shop with silky soft merino wools, baby alpaca, kid mohair, pima cotton, and cashmere. We carry other luxury yarns such as pure silk, silk and cashmere blends, angora, and hand-dyed yarns in a variety of fibers. We have a large selection of accent and trim yarns that make up into fabulous scarves and add panache to wraps and garments of all kinds. Our basic worsted yarn is Shepherd's Wool, a beautiful, basic merino wool yarn, grown, spun, and dyed in the United States. We also carry Berroco Comfort, Berroco Vintage Wool, and Plymouth Encore Worsted for easy care garments and afghans.

In November of 2007 we opened a second location in La Plata to serve the knitters who come from Charles, and King George County and as far away as Northern Virginia. We keep nearly identical stock in each store, so you can find what you need whether you're in Leonardtown or La Plata. Our bookshelves hold the latest and best knitting books. We have instructional books from Sally Melville with on the spot guidance as well as attractive, wardrobe-building patterns you'll choose to wear every day. We comb through the dozens of knitting books that are published each year and select only the best for our customers. We have a wide variety of individual patterns from Chris Bylsma, Oat Couture, Knitting Pure and Simple, White Lies Designs, Cocoknits, Fiber Trends, and many others. We are also happy to help you find a yarn for any patterns of your own you want to knit.

Classes and lessons are some of the most fun things we do at Crazy for Ewe. We offer beginning knitting lessons every Saturday at both shops, as well as private and semi-private lessons. Check out our classes page for information on our popular Knit and Finish classes that will guide you through your first sweater or our Fit and Finish classes which will teach you to customize a pattern to suit your shape and fit preferences.

Technique classes such as continental knitting, entrelac, stranded knitting, intarsia, and lace appear on the schedule regularly. We are always happy to accommodate special class requests - if there is something you would like to learn, just ask us, and we'll try to work it into the class schedule. Check out our weekly newsletter to see what's happening, and what's coming up.

Our wonderful staff is always happy to help you find just what you're looking for and to assist you with your projects. So join us for Friday morning coffee, Wednesday evening fun, or just come by when you have a few moments to take a look, get inspired, or just say hello. You are always welcome here.
