Taste it!
Last week I talked about swatching, getting to know your yarn and the fabric you're making. Of course that assumes that you've chosen the yarn you like based on - what? The way it looks and feels in the skein, probably, or a swatch we've done in the shop. But what if you had the opportunity to swatch lots of different yarns and see how you like them, without having to invest in a skein of each? That would be pretty great, huh? Well that's what a yarn tasting is. We take the new yarns we have in the shop - and there are a bunch right now - and wind up sample skeins for you to try out. Just like with a wine tasting, I'll tell you about the yarns so that you can learn while you sample. Sound like fun? It totally is!
A yarn tasting is like with a wine tasting, only you're knitting instead of drinking! Tastings can be set up in different ways. Often a winery will offer a tasting of a new wine or a new vintage they've just made, so you'll be tasting something you've never had before. Sometimes you'll taste a particular type of wine from several producers to see how they differ in style. Other times you'll taste wines of different types and compare one to the next in order to learn the differences. We're offering several yarn tastings over the next few weeks so . We'll start with a selection of our new yarns that you have never used before, so you can see how they knit, and how you like them. Then we'll do tastings of at yarns by type so you can compare merinos from different manufacturers with different construction. And we'll also offer yarn tastings by fiber and fiber blends.
A yarn tasting is a wonderful way to try new fibers and to learn about yarns of all types. The tastings are $20, and you can take 10% off any yarn you purchase at that time.
