The Aha! Moment

The Aha! Moment

This weekend we had a great time with Cornelia Tuttle Hamilton learning a new technique for creating a truly innovative openwork fabric.  Very cool.

It's not something you're going to figure out by looking at it, so naturally the process was a little challenging.  Which is good.  Everyone's brain was in high gear as we followed along trying to figure out what was going on.  Then the "Aha!" moment came for us.  An Aha! moment is when a flash of insight brings clarity and understanding to the problem at hand.  Cornelia described having such a moment when she developed her openwork technique, and we had similar moments as we learned it.  It felt good.

The Aha! moment does feel good.  Psychologists have studies the concept and agree that these insights are tremendously gratifying.  With it comes a feeling of well-being and a sense of increased confidence.  Who doesn't love that!  Perhaps that's part of hand-knitting's appeal - it gives you lots of opportunities to experience these satisfying aha moments.  You can try out Cornelia's Openwork technique in this great scarf.  Or you can try knitting socks with Jenny, or learn to crochet with Antonella.  It doesn't really matter how you get it, just that you do.  Stop by and register for a class or pick out something you haven't done before and get working toward your Aha! moment.  It'll make you feel good.

I look forward to seeing you in the shop and around the table.  You are always welcome here.  ~Ellen
