  • Beautiful Mirai is one of Noro’s few yarns with absolutely no wool or other animal fiber. Primarily cotton blended with silk and rayon, it’s soft as a cloud. The colors are bright but not garish, creating the gently striping fabric you would expect from Noro. The cotton in Mirai is unmercerized, so it’s lovely to knit and soft against the skin. We’ve machine washed a swatch, and it came out just fine, so you could even use Mirai for babies who especially appreciate Mirai’s soft super feel

It’s classified as a dk weight yarn, but Mirai tends to bloom, so it’s perfectly happy knit at a worsted gauge on a US size 7 or 8. I’ve even pushed it to a US 10 for a lace poncho. The fabric is really wonderful whatever gauge you choose. There are 262 yards in each 100g skein, so you really only need three to make a summer top.

Mirai means future in Japanese. Isn’t that a lovely connotation! Like Kumo, the colors are named after Japanese cities and towns. So fun and fanciful!

  • Mirai is great in both sweaters and accessories.  I love how this shawl by Benjamin Mathews showcases Mirai's colors against a solid yarn.
