Mt. Vernon was the shop's first foray into Cestari Yarns. I originally bought it for the novelty of having a really truly local wool. It's Targhee fine merino, Targhee, to be precise, from sheep raised right next door in Virginia. It's woolen spun the old fashioned way making it light and lofty. While it's labeled Worsted, a quick swatched showed that this yarn was happiest knit at a chunky gauge. It's perfect on a US size 11 (8mm) needle
Mt Vernon is cleaned and scoured without the use of harsh chemicals, so it retains the earthy beauty of the original fleece without any stickiness. In the skein, Mt. Vernon, is not the silkiest yarn in the store, but with a little bath, it softens and blooms into a gorgeous fabric that is soft enough for next to the skin wear, and sturdy enough for a jacket.
Machine wash cold gentle, or hand wash. Dry flat. Do not dryclean - you want to retain the natural lanolin in the wool
