Shibui Koan

  • Let's face it, linen is one of those fibers that we love to wear but don't always love to knit, right? Shibui Koan will change your mind on that forever. A silky smooth blend of linen and mulberry silk, Koan is lovely to knit. None of the stiffness you usually associate with linen, thanks to a supple chainette construction that moves and drapes, creating a fabric with a soft suppleness you would never expect from linen.

Both linen and silk absorb dye really well, so Koan has rich saturated colors, and the mulberry silk gives it a subtle and beautiful sheen. I absolutely adore this yarn for summer tops and year round garments that are efortlessly elegant and feel just a little bit dressed up without looking like you tried too hard.

Like all Shibui yarns, Koan is great on its own, but also plays well with other Shibui fibers. While I don't typically pair two plant-based Shibui fibers, Koan is an exception to this rule, because it is silky soft and smooth. Try Koan in Isabelle Kraemer's lovely top, Cullum, or Elizabeth Doherty's Donner. Pair it with Twig in Doherty's beautiful pullover Calyx. I also think Lantana, by Shellie Anderson might be my go-to favorite for summer wiht its modern assymetrical hem and my favorite Lunar held with Koan. You can also substitute Koan for Reed, as it is the exact same gauge and same yardage, just a little more luxe because of the silk.
