Our March First Friday project is going to be really fun because there are so many options. I wanted to do something like a pattern I had seen on Ravelry in which bands of beautiful self-striping yarn float on a sea of Kidsilk Haze in a giant triangular shawl. I showed it to Mary, and she pulled some gorgeous combinations of our fingering weight Taiyo and a gorgeous peach Kidsilk Haze and got going.
Pretty soon she'd worked it into a snappy diamond shaped scarf. Very striking! You can make yours a scarf or a large wrap. Either way, it's exactly what you want this time of year when it's not really cold, but the wind can cut right through you. The colors are so bright and fresh, it's a perfect springtime project.
Here are some color combinations you might like. Don't they look so happy and fun!
Last week while I was showing Antonella the sample, we got to talking about the options, and our eyes fell on Flora, a fine cotton yarn with a tiny sequin accent - just beautiful. Before very long, Antonella had pulled matching colors of Flora and Kidsilk Haze and was busy on a creation of her own. Same idea - a fine yarn floating on a sea of laceweight mohair, but I think Antonella's is going to be a dainty cowl that brings to mind spring blossoms.
Here's the color she chose
But there are lots of others you'll love as much, if not more!
This First Friday we are honored to have ensembles from the Southern Maryland Youth Orchestra and Choir (SMYOC) performing in the Leonardtown Arts Center. Lots of businesses are donating a portion of our First Friday sales to the SMYOC. Here at the shop, we're donating 10% of our sales to the cause, and $30 for every person who signs up for beginning knitting lessons that night! If you have a friend you'd like to introduce to knitting, this is the night to bring her! Was there ever a more fun introduction to the joys of knitting than beautiful yarn, pink drinks, and a generous donation to a worthy cause!
So, join us First Friday for a wonderful evening of playing with colors and textures and pink drinks, and friends, new and old!
