My friend Amy shared this little cartoon on Facebook the other day.  I love it.  Sure, it's sweet and at first it may seem a bit naive, or even kind of Pollyanna-ish, but that's not what I take from it.  I'm a huge fan of The 7 Habits approach to life.  The first habit, and the one I find especially useful, is about how to deal with the millions of things there are in this world to worry about.  Unfortunately, most of the things that cause me angst aren't in my area of control at all.  There is absolutely nothing I can do personally to change them, so focusing on things I can't change wastes my energy and makes me less effective.  I can only impact those things that are in my area of control.  I have to constantly remind myself to focus on those things that I can do and take one step at a time in the right direction.  I can't control the big bad things in the world, just as I can't control the weather, but I can put on a sweater, and I can give one to someone who is cold.  I have to sow seeds of the kind of world I would like to see.  We all do.

I am that little guy with the shovel, and I think 2017 will bring knitting and crochet, because I am planting projects and classes and shelves full of yarn.  I hope you will help me gather up the blossoms.  Together we will make the world warmer and brighter and happier.

I look forward to seeing you in the shop and around the table.  You are always welcome here.

Ellen
