I’m in Oregon this week for my youngest son, Colton’s graduation. It’s hard to believe he is the same person we sent off 3000 miles away during a pandemic. The truth is that he is not, in fact, the same person. The Colton we sent off was a child—anxious about the unknown and worried about the future. At the time, I remember telling Bill, “I am not altogether sure Colton is ready for college.” My wise husband assured me, “College will make him ready for college.“

How right he was. The Colton that picked us up at the airport Saturday was a confident young man, excited about his future. He’s not exactly sure what he’s going to do or how he’s going to do it, but that’s OK—he’ll figure it out. He has the tools, but most importantly he has the confidence.

It is the same when knitters think about facing a sweater project. The time to start is before you feel ready. The doing of the project will teach you. We don’t know what challenges will face us. We don’t know what parts of the pattern will trip us up. We can knit dishcloths all day long telling ourselves that we’re improving our skills, but the most complicated cable and lace dishcloth is not going to show you how to work a neckline, handle simultaneous shaping, or set in a sleeve. Only doing it will teach you.

For many of us, college is the safe transition from childhood at home to adulthood in the world. In college you are on your own but not alone. There is structure, support, and guidance as you develop your wings, find your way, and establish yourself.

This is exactly the model I have built for Club Crazy for Ewe.  Sweater Eweniversity is a structured framework that takes you through the process of knitting sweaters that fit perfectly and look great. You start easy with straightforward designs as you learn how to choose the right size, understand the pattern and  finish your pieces.  You will eventually learn how to adjust any pattern to fit you and make whatever changes you like. You’ll feel confident and secure choosing any pattern, knowing you have the skills to make it work for you.

If this sounds like something you’d like, sign up for our Zoom sessions where you’ll hear about how others in Club Crazy for Ewe have found success, learn some key skills, and feel what it’s like to work with me in this format.

Sign up for the waitlist, and I’ll send you a link when we have the Zoom sessions,

Congratulations Colton! Best wishes from your mom’s friend in Texas who visited your home! As a college professor for close to 30 years I loved every minute of teaching but my favorite part was seeing my students succeed in getting what they came for in the beginning!!! Enjoy and may the future bring you great joy!
