Sunday was bittersweet. A group of us got together for brunch to say farewell to Aimee Soderberg who’s moving to Pittsburgh. With a ready smile and a funny story to share, Aimee has been a bright light in our Tuesday evening class since it was initiated. We will all miss you tons.

Summer knitting with Noro Asaginu
Summer knitting is relaxed and easy. Short sleeves or no sleeves means you're not on sleeve island - at least not for very long, anyway. I love summer fibers too. In this latitude, summer garments are actually seasonless. I wear my blue Triton all year long - it looks as nice with cropped linen trousers as with slim wool trousers. It’s always perfect. Same with various shells and tanks I’ve knit - like my new favorite, the Staple Linen Top.

Why the knitting trade show us important
Last week Ginni and Mary and I went to HH Americas, a trade show and convention previously held exclusively in Europe. We used to go to TNNA every year, but even before Covid, that event started to unravel a bit. So it has been almost 5 years since an event like this, and we were pretty excited to attend.

When we get started on a garment, there are so many things to consider.
There are the fun things - What pattern will I knit? What yarn should I use? We all love this part. It’s exciting to choose a design and pick the yarn. It’s all about color and texture, fun stitch patterns and style. Who doesn’t love that?

Lots of people only knit in the winter. I get it - wool is definitely nicer to use than almost any plant-based fibers, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t give summer yarns a chance. There are lots of great reasons to knit summer garments and even more beautiful summer fibers to enjoy.
Knitting - not a solitary activity
The wonderful thing about knitting is that it is a solitary activity. Unlike tennis, you don’t need a partner or team. You can do it all by yourself for hours on end. The downside of knitting is that it is a solitary activity. We can occupy ourselves to the exclusion of others and sometimes feel a little lonely. Don’t get me wrong here. Knitting is a beautiful experience and a very real way to be mindful - fully present, and in the moment with ourselves alone. But our need for one another is just as real.

Thank you so much for taking the time to respond to my survey on the Magnolia Knitalong. I asked you to tell me which style you liked best - Magnolia Bloom which features the motif around the yoke, or Magnolia Chunky which has the motif at the hem and cuffs.
