The May book selection is A Gentleman in Moscow by Amor Towles. I read this book earlier this year and thoroughly enjoyed it. A beautiful story of a Russian aristocrat imprisoned in a Moscow hotel who manages to build a wonderful life and find great happiness despite

Every good boy does fine, Kings prefer chocolate over fudge generally speaking, Roy G. Biv. These crazy nonsensical phrases are all a type of mnemonic device that helped me remember things I had to learn in school. The notes of a treble staff, the 7 levels of biological taxonomy, and the colors of light in the visible spectrum. None of these lists has been particularly useful to me as an adult, but still

This beautiful Peruvian Connection catalog arrived in my mailbox yesterday. Gorgeous stuff, it is. I always swoon over their hand knit sweaters. Like any good knitter, I think to myself, "I could knit that," and so could you. Here's one I think is gorgeous and would be super easy, super flattering, and waaaay more

Stash - the very word conjures up images of a secret trove of treasures to be hidden from view lest they they be pirated away by some greedy other. That's how I look at my stash. It's security and power - a source of inspiration and opportunity. But then there's the reverse - a stash's dark side that harbors guilt and oppression serving not as inspiration and opportunity but as obligation and stress. more

What a great weekend this is going to be! Local Yarn Store Day Saturday, Earth Day and Sample Sale Sunday. Unlike Earth Day, which has been celebrated for many years and has quite a following, Local Yarn Store Day is a new event intended to bring attention to those brick and mortar operations that sell yarn. Since you're reading this, you are obviously a customer of my shop, and probably more

My youngest, Colton, had just turned two when I opened the shop, so I find it quite remarkable to report that last week I took him to get his learner's permit. Time flies for sure. As we were out for his very first driving experience, was pretty comfortable maneuvering the car on the small road to our house. Backing more

It's finally getting warm enough for me to be excited about spring. It's been a long time coming, and I'll admit, I've had a bit of a hard time getting psyched up about it, but I'm ready for spring yarns, spring sweaters, and spring everything. Come see the demo of our Cocoknits Sweater Care Kit and get a free sample of Soak. Try out the new fibers, and see the new samples!
We've gotten huge shipments of fabulous fibers from several of our favorite companies! First is the elegant new Fern and new colors from Shibui. Clean more

Thank you to everyone who came to the discussion of My Grandmother Asked Me to Tell You She's Sorry. It was a good discussion and we unpacked quite a bit of our thoughts on recent events in the community and in our lives.
The April book is The Immortalists by Chloe Benjamin. It's the story of 4 siblings from a nice Jewish family in New York who together in 1969 more

Like so many of you, I have struggled all week with the loss of sweet Jaelynn Willey. Her death was a personal tragedy for her family and close friends, but it has also impacted the wider community and shaken us to our very core.
I will not pretend to have had a special relationship with Jaelynn, because I did not. I knew her only through the shop where she was a student in some of my classes and a knitter at our table. She and her mom and sisters were Saturday regulars. When they would come in together, it was like the sun breaking more

I’m super excited that we have our March Manos Madness event this weekend with piles and piles of beautiful new yarn from one of my favorite hand-dye companies. The name, or course, is a play on the NCAA basketball event. I’m not sure if they call it March Madness because there are so many games or because more
