In fashion you often hear about the importance of a third layer.  By third layer, I mean something besides your skirt and a top, pants and blouse, or jeans and tee.  Fashion Stylist Angie from the popular blog You Look Fab calls it the third piece: "The third piece is often the one that takes an outfit to the next level by making it look more finished, pulled together, fashionable and interesting."  It's so true.  When you look in the mirror and think, "This outfit needs something," it's that third layer you're looking for.

Guys have it pretty easy - a blazer turns khakis and a shirt into a look that's appropriate almost anywhere.  We have so many more choices.  A jacket is always a solid option, but of course, I always think of something hand knit.  If you're a sweater knitter, a cardigan is a perfect and obvious third layer.  Your hand-knit cardigan in a color you love turns basic pants and a top into Wow!

Your third layer doesn't have to be a sweater, though.  It can be a fabulous wrap, a colorful infinity or a big lace scarf. As Angie says, "Adding a scarf to an outfit creates visual drama," which is just another way of saying, it makes an outfit more interesting.  It's more interesting because there's more going on, but it's also more interesting because you made it.  Your hand knit says something about who you are, what your like and what you do.  It reflects your personal style and what you choose to say about yourself by what your wear.  So when you get dressed in the morning, reach for something beautiful you've made and give the world a little glimpse of how very special you are.

I look forward to seeing you wearing your third layer in the shop and around the table!  You are always welcome here.   ~Ellen
